The 30-year-old fell down the pecking order at Old Trafford following the £80million signing of Harry Maguire last summer.

Smalling made 30 appearances as Roma finished fifth in Serie A and it is believed United are willing to let the centre-back leave this summer but want in the region of £20million.

Roma are keen on signing the former England international but are reportedly unwilling to meet the valuation.

Inter Milan and Newcastle are also interested in his signature, according to The Sun.

Roma may now look at other options to bolster their defensive options ahead of next season.

Corriere dello Sport, via Sport Witness, claim that Sokratis could ‘say goodbye’ to Arsenal and return to Italy.

The Greece international spent two seasons with Genoa for two seasons between 2009 and 2011 before joining AC Milan for €14million.

The 32-year-old could find himself surplus to requirements at the Emirates with reports that the Gunners have agreed a deal to sign Gabriel from Lille.
