James Rodriguez admitted he is keen on a summer transfer to the Premier League as his time at Real Madrid draws to a close.

Rodriguez, 29, has been frozen out by Zinedine Zidane this season, starting just five times in La Liga and scoring once.

He moved to the Santiago Bernabeu six years ago but spent two seasons on loan at Bayern Munich before returning to Madrid last season.

However, he will now look to end his association with the club, who are willing to sell him for a bargain £23million.

Arsenal are said to be showing ‘the most’ interest in the Colombia international, while his representatives held talks with Manchester United chiefs.

And now he has publicly revealed that he would be keen on a move to these shores.

‘I’ve already been in several good leagues and the only thing missing is Serie A and the Premier League, you have to see where I want to go or where they want me to go,’ Rodriguez said on Daniel Habif’s podcast.

‘Going to England would be a good thing, it’s a top league.’

He added: ‘I too would like to know where I am going. It may take days or weeks until I know where I am going.

‘I really don’t know. I want to go where I can play, where I am happy and where I feel loved by the whole world.’

Rodriguez expressed his frustration at not being allowed to leave last summer as he finally prepares to move on to pastures new.

‘He [Zidane] has his own tastes for some players and he is respectable,’ Rodriguez said.

‘I don’t get involved there. When you see that you don’t have the same opportunities as your teammates, it’s difficult. I wanted to leave and the club wouldn’t let me leave.

‘I wanted to go where I could have played, I knew I would not have opportunities, because Zidane already had his base.

‘My wish was that the fans would have the memory of my previous stage at Madrid, not this … I did 36 goals and 42 assists.’
