Douglas Costa could be a ‘good alternative’ to Jadon Sancho this summer and can ‘rediscover’ his best form at Manchester United.

That’s the view of Stewart Robson, the former Arsenal midfielder, who thinks the Brazilian Juventus wide man could be a great signing this summer.

Juventus are ready to sell Costa, who made just seven starts in Serie A this season after struggling with injury.

He has struggled to consistently produce his best form since moving to Serie A from Bundesliga giantst Bayern Munich and could now move on.

While Sancho, the Borussia Dortmund attacker, is at the top of Manchester United’s summer wishlist, Dortmund are adamant he won’t be sold.

And Robson thinks United could do worse than pick up Costa, should they not be able to bring Sancho to Old Trafford this summer.

‘If you’re looking for a right-sided player that can come in onto his left foot and get crosses in and get shots away and link up with the front player, he’s an excellent player,’ Robson told ESPN FC.

‘He hasn’t really done anywhere near as well at Juventus as people thought he would.

‘He’s had his injury problems, he’s had his disciplinary problems, he got sent off earlier on in the season, but on his day he’s still an excellent player and I don’t think he’s been given the opportunities that he would have hoped for.

‘When he was at Bayern Munich he was a magnificent player and I think if he went to Manchester United, he could rediscover that form.

‘So I think he would be a good alternative.’
