Ashley Cole hopes Chelsea can add Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz to the signings of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.

The Blues have been busy in the transfer market, already wrapping up deals for Werner from RB Leipzig and Ziyech from Ajax to bolster their attacking line.

Havertz is next on the agenda and reports claim that a five-year contract has been agreed with the 20-year-old.

However, Leverkusen maintain that he will only be allowed to leave ‘if certain requirements are met’ as they hold out for their €100million (£89.8m) price tag.

Blues hero Cole feels Havertz will make his former side a force to be reckoned with next season and is happy with the work his former team-mate Frank Lampard has done.

‘Frank has had a brilliant first season and added two players, and maybe Havertz as well,’ Cole told StatsPerformNews.

‘Our attacking threat is amazing and the fans will be happy.

‘Hopefully they can add Havertz to make their attacking threat even more potent. It is a young squad, with young players who have top quality and have played in top leagues being added.

‘It’s good to see them at Chelsea and hopefully they can quickly integrate into the team ahead of next season.’

Lampard and Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta met in the FA Cup final, showcasing the increased faith placed in young, inexperienced managers, and Cole – who is now working as an academy coach at Chelsea – is glad they are being given a chance.

‘As young coaches, you never know until you’re put in these situations,’ he added.

‘Arteta has done a great job in transforming Arsenal into playing good football, making them good to watch.

‘Lampard has done the same with some young players. I think it’s a good sign that owners and chairmen are giving young coaches a chance without much experience.

‘But young coaches can’t gain experience unless they are given an opportunity.’
