When you think of two historic franchises like the Dodgers and Yankees, plenty of things come to mind. You think of hall of fame players, a legacy of winning, and so much more. But the uniforms really are a defining mark of the two franchises, and they have not changed much in the last 100 years or so.

So when the two franchises met up at Dodger Stadium last year for the first time since 2013, you expected MLB to really capitalize on the history of the two. Maybe something paying homage to the fact that these two teams have met up 11 times in the World Series, and 5 since the Dodgers moved to Los Angeles.

But no. That is not what we got out of that. Instead, we got Player’s Weekend uniforms that were not only not fun, but they were hideous. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts apparently was also not a big fan. He talked about the Player’s Weekend uniforms on the Off-Air podcast with Joe Davis and Orel Hershiser this week.

Oh, that was bad. I mean you get these iconic uniforms, two of the best in sports. Dodgers and the Yankees pinstripes, well the Yankees were on the road with greys. But our home whites. And then we went and they rocked the blacks. It was bad.

Yeah, we definitely feel you on that one Dave. You know it’s bad when you would much rather just have the two teams wear their normal uniforms on Player’s Weekend. But the Dodgers’ home whites mixed with the Yankee grey is just a historic look. It’s a shame that MLB doesn’t know how to market their teams very well, maybe next year.
