Alexis Sanchez is set to be offered a fresh escape route out of Manchester United, with Roma keen on taking him on loan next season.

Manchester United chiefs are keen to offload the expensive flop but are struggling to find a buyer, largely due to his extortionate £500,000-a-week pay packet.

Sanchez, formerly of Arsenal and Barcelona, has had an injury hit season on loan with Inter Milan goal, scoring just one goal in 15 appearances in all competitions.

Inter are unlikely to extend his stay at the San Siro and given the coronavirus crisis, it was thought he may even end up staying at Old Trafford.

But Roma are willing to take a chance on the Chile international, and bring him back to Serie A for another season, according to Sky Sports.

United’s relationship with Roma has been strengthened by Chris Smalling heading on loan to the Stadio Olimpico this season.

Arsenal’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan has also spent a year with the Italian side and they are considering making his loan permanent in a £22million deal.

However, Mkhitaryan has opened the door to a return to the Emirates under new Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, which could see Sanchez head to Rome instead.
