Norwich City winger Todd Cantwell has admitted Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s ‘pace’ and ‘strength’ makes him impossible to dribble past.

The 22-year-old has been a standout performer in Ole Gunnar Solskaer’s side since his £45million move from Crystal Palace last summer.

Wan-Bissaka has been nicknamed ‘The Spider’ due to his ability to defend in one-on-one situations, and Cantwell says the right-back lived up to the billing during United’s 3-1 away win at Norwich in October.

He told the United Stand’s YouTube channel: ‘To be fair the first game when we played at Carrow Road it felt like one of those games where the tempo really got lifted.

‘It was really hard to get near the boys really. I remember finding it really hard down the left particularly with Wan-Bissaka.

‘What an amazing defender he is. I mean he does it to everyone so I don’t take it personally.

‘I knew I was in for a tough game obviously he’s got pace, strength, he’s a very, very good one-on-one defender.

‘No matter how good an attacker you are you’ve still got to respect if you’re a good defender you’re a good defender.’

Cantwell says it’s not only Wan-Bissaka’s physical prowess that makes him a top defender, but his anticipation enables him to read the game with ease.

He added: ‘It’s similar to Jamal [Lewis], there are certain players you don’t want to go up against, you know that normally if you’re not quicker than them you can outwit them but when they’ve got wit to defend with as well it can be pretty tough.’
