Chelsea are set to train their focus on signing Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell as Paris Saint-Germain are ahead of the Blues in the race to sign Porto left-back Alex Telles.

Frank Lampard has prioritised the left-back position as one he wants to strengthen over the summer, having lost faith in Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri, preferring to play Cesar Azpilicueta out of position on the left of defence.

Telles had been identified as a possible solution to Lampard’s problem, but reports in his homeland suggest the Brazil international will be at PSG next season.

The 27-year-old has just one year left on his contract, which has seen the vultures circle for his signature, and Brazilian publication Gauchazh states that the French club have got their man and a deal is to be concluded soon.

Telles’ former club Gremio will be entitled to a cut of the transfer fee, thought to be around £20m.

With the Brazilian seemingly off the market, Chelsea will pursue their interest in Leicester City and England defender Ben Chilwell, although his price tag remains an issue.

The 23-year-old could cost as much as £80m, with Leicester under no pressure to sell and having demonstrated their firmness in the transfer market when they demanded the same price for Harry Maguire from Manchester United.

Chilwell’s contract at the King Power Stadium runs until 2024 and unless he pushes hard for a move away from Leicester, the Foxes will be highly unlikely to drop their demands.

A third option at left-back for Lampard could be Nicolas Tagliafico of Ajax, who the club have been linked with in recent months.

The 27-year-old Argentina international only has a contract until 2022 and would be available for much less than Chilwell.

Hakim Ziyech is already set to arrive at Chelsea from Ajax this summer after a deal was agreed for the winger in February.
